Exoneration is the legal term for ending a bail bond. It happens automatically when the case concludes — whether by guilty plea, dismissal, acquittal, or sentencing.
Premium is never refunded
The 10% premium you paid the bondsman is for the service of posting the bond. It's earned the moment the bond is posted and is not refunded regardless of outcome.
Collateral is returned
If you pledged collateral (property, vehicle, etc.), it's released within 30 days of exoneration. You'll get a written release.
Co-signer obligation ends
Your liability as indemnitor ends with exoneration. Keep a copy of the exoneration paperwork for your records.
