If someone you love has been arrested in Orange County, the first 24 hours feel chaotic. Here's exactly what to do, in order.
Step 1 — Find them
Go to ocsd.org and use the "Who's In Jail" tool. Search by last name. If they're not showing up, it can take 2–6 hours after arrest for booking to complete.
Step 2 — Check the charges and bail
The inmate page lists current charges and bail amount. If bail says "No Bail" or "Hold," the defendant must wait for arraignment (within 48 hours, excluding weekends).
Step 3 — Decide: bail or wait
Bailing out means release in hours. Waiting for arraignment can take 1–3 days depending on when they were arrested. To bail out, call (909) 406-6909 — we handle the entire process remotely.
Step 4 — Schedule a visit (if not bailing)
Orange County uses GTL video visitation. Register at gtlvisitme.com, link to the inmate, and schedule a free or paid video visit. In-person visits at Theo Lacy and IRC require advance scheduling.
Step 5 — Put money on their books
Use TouchPay (touchpaydirect.com) or deposit at jail kiosks. Money on the books pays for commissary (snacks, hygiene, phone time). $20–$50 is enough for a few days.
Step 6 — Send mail
Mail must go through Smart Communications. Letters are scanned and delivered electronically — no physical mail reaches the inmate. Address details are on the OCSD website.
