San Diego County Sheriff's Department operates seven detention facilities serving the second-largest county jail population in California. Here's what you need to know about each one.
San Diego Central Jail (Downtown)
The main downtown intake jail for men. Most SDPD and downtown arrests start here. Release timing: 4–8 hours.
Vista Detention Facility
North County intake for men. Serves arrests from Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido, and San Marcos. Similar release timing to Central.
Las Colinas Detention & Reentry Facility (Santee)
Women's jail for the entire county. Modern campus-style facility — generally faster releases than the men's jails.
George Bailey Detention Facility (Otay Mesa)
Large men's facility, often used after initial booking at Central or Vista. Bond accepted but transports slow things down.
South Bay Detention Facility (Chula Vista)
Smaller facility serving South Bay arrests. Generally fast intake and release.
