Most bail bonds don't involve a credit check. The bondsman's underwriting looks at the case, the co-signer's stability, and whether the defendant has skin in the community — not your FICO score.
Bonds under $25,000
Almost always written without a credit check. The 10% premium plus a stable co-signer is enough.
Bonds $25,000–$100,000
Some bondsmen pull credit. Many don't. Collateral (vehicle, property) substitutes for credit.
Bonds over $100,000
Underwriting tightens. Credit, collateral, and proof of income are usually required. Payment plans are still available.
Payment plans
Most bonds can be set up with as little as 5–10% down and the rest financed over 6–24 months.
What hurts more than bad credit
Defendant has a history of skipping bail, lives out of state, or has no employment. Those are bigger flags than your credit score.
