California allows a 2% discount on bail bond premiums when the defendant has a private attorney of record at the time the bond is posted.
Who qualifies
Any retained private criminal defense attorney. Public defenders do not qualify — they aren't 'of record' in the same sense.
How to claim it
Bring proof of representation — a retainer agreement, business card with case number, or attorney letter. The bondsman applies the discount at the time of bond.
Math
On a $50,000 bail, the discount is $1,000 ($5,000 → $4,000). On a $100,000 bail, it's $2,000.
